I had my first photographic commission as soon as I finished University.

The brief was simply to photograph a day at Crufts for Dogs Today Magazine.

I have always been fascinated by the relationships we build with animals, and as a young teenager, my dog Gus, was my best friend. There were countless times that I cried into her fur.

"I don’t know of any other animals closer to us in qualities of heart, sentiment and loyalty"- Elliott Erwitt

As I walked around the massive halls during Crufts, weaving between food stalls, dog cages and judging rings, I was beginning to seek out those small moments of connection between breeder and dog, human and friend.

I shot the entire project on my Bronica ETRsi 6x6 and a Metz flashgun
